Babies should be able to hold a pacifier in their mouth without help. If it keeps falling out of their mouth, you may wonder why. First, make sure you are inserting the pacifier to the roof of their mouth. This is where the sucking reflex will be initiated. If you put it on their tongue, they will spit it out! It’s called the tongue thrust reflex and it is present in babes up to 4-6 months. If you are doing that and they still can’t hold it in, we wonder why. Their tongues should be able to “cup

Great question⬇️ newborn babies need a pacifier because they still have a sucking reflex. It would be really difficult to take a pacifier from a baby before four months of age. I would check to see if they still have a sucking reflex before I remove it. Once the sucking reflex is gone , if sleep is being impacted by the pacifier, it can be a great time to consider removing it. Remember, this is a really personal choice. As your baby gets older, it gets harder. Once a baby can put it in their mou

The pacifier, or the dummy, is an amazing soothing tool that provides non-nutritive sucking. . Especially in the newborn stages, this can really help support great sleep. . For some babies, the pacifier or dummy can fall out, and it doesn’t affect them, and they can keep on sleeping. . But for some babies every time the pacifier falls out, they wake up. . If that is your baby, here are some tips to help you know what to do if you have to replace the pacifier every time it falls out of your baby'

If your baby won’t take a pacifier this could be the trick! Instead of placing the pacifier on baby’s tongue aim in to the roof of their mouth and apply gentle pressure. If baby still drops the pacifier try applying very gentle pressure to baby’s cheeks to illicit the suck reflex and help them keep the pacifier in! And remember mama- pacifiers are a personal choice and can be a great tool for helping your little one but if you choose not to use one- that is absolutely ok. As always I am sending

Unpopular opinion….👇The pacifier is usually a part of the sleep problem. Hi 👋🏼I’m Katy. Peds NP, Sleep coach, & BF counselor. Follow @wellrestedweeones for more baby & toddler tips. Pacifiers are great for soothing your baby and can help a lot of babies sleep in the first few months, BUT I generally recommend removing the pacifier between 4-6 months of age! 😳It’s time to say good bye if you’re replacing it multiple times overnight or your baby can’t sleep without it. Many parents give their babies pacifiers to satisfy their sucking needs and to calm them. There is no need to insist if your baby refuses the pacifier or to reinsert the pacifier if your baby spits it out. 🔴Extended pacifier use can increase the ear infections.🔴Almost all babies will find some baby gas relief by sucking on a pacifier.🔴A prolonged and frequent sucking habit may eventually cause crooked teeth or bite problems. 🔴Pacifiers often fall out of babies' mouths, which means they can b

Pacifiers are GREAT for soothing your baby and can help a lot of babies sleep in the first few months, BUT I generally recommend removing the pacifier between 3-6 months of age! 😳 It’s time to say GOODBYE 👋 if you’re replacing it multiple times overnight or your baby can’t sleep without it. It can cause alot of sleep disruptions even when your baby can replace it on their own as many babies will wake up and cry when they can’t find it. 🫠 I remove the pacifier 99% of the time when sleep traini

If you know you know 😂 I’ve been WAITING for this day. Every time that pacifier falls out her mouth, she wakes up. And ever since she figured out how to put it back in, both our sleep improved significantly and I’m not running up and down the stairs 20x during the night 🥲🙏🏼 @Philips Avent @target #babysleep #babypacifier #6monthsold #sleeptraining #momof2
