Using a TV to play games? You can, in part, credit Ralph Baer for coming up with that idea in 1951. In 1966, he built the first prototype for a home gaming console that could play games without a computer, microprocessor, or software. In 1972, he licensed it to Magnavox, who released the Odyssey game system in which players attached plastic overlays to the TV screen for a game background. This nice #Magnavox presented having been "serviced." Unfortunately somebody took it apart further than necessary and put the tonearm assembly back together wrong. While it actually worked for 12 inch and 10 inch records, it wouldn't play a 7 inch record automatically, deciding there were none to be played and shutting itself off. That's a pretty easy fix. Something different! I think we did a similar demo quite a while back, somebody asked to see a Magnavox doing the various sizes and the shut off bypass. Here's an early Micromatic, definitely a crossover model. This has the infinite sizing but demonstrated with the three standard sizes of 12, 10, and 7 inch. From our friend Bill, this #Magnavox came in noisy. The culprit was the idler. On these they are either good and virtually like new (usually), or they have turned hard and crusty. While they will turn the platter, they will eventually start dropping chunks out of their edges which will them even noisier, affect record play, and can even stop the platter mid rotation. Replaced!
