Most people talk about the “soul” like it’s some ghostly, floating part of you that detaches at death… but that’s not what the Bible teaches. Not even close. In Genesis 2:7, God gives us the original definition — the one He inspired, not the one culture borrowed from Greek philosophy. The text says God formed man from the dust of the ground (the body), then breathed into his nostrils the breath of life (the divine spark, nishmat chayyim). And man BECAME a living soul. Notice what it doesn’t say:
