The fascinating origins of a British icon! The first public telephone kiosk (box) was the K1, which was introduced by the Post Office in 1921. Giles Gibert Scott, the son of the most profile Victorian architect, George Gilbert Scottt, won the competition for the design of the new telephone box. The first wooden prototypes that Scott produced can be found in the entrance way to the Royal Academy of Art on Piccadilly.
